What we collect

When you create an account, we store information such as your name, email address, username, school year, term, and optional profile details. We also store study statistics, classes, units, notes, friendships, and other information you choose to add.

School name, abbreviation, and state are private profile fields. They are used to find potential classmates, and are not available to other users.

How we use information

We use account and study information to authenticate you, operate your notebook, organize classes, support friends and classmates, track study activity, and provide the features you request.

When you request transcription, classification, study advice, flashcards, practice tests, summaries, or explanations, relevant content may be sent to Gemini (operated by Google DeepMind and Alphabet, Inc.) to produce that result. Generated material is saved so you can review and edit it.

Storage and sharing

Notes and uploaded files are stored with MongoDB, Inc. Uploads and images are stored with Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. Passwords are stored securely.

Information is shared with service providers only as needed to run the features you use. Friends can see the study statistics and streak information made available by the app. Classmates can access notes only when you grant them access.

Lumen does not show ads or sell personal data.

Your choices

You can review and update many profile details and the content you create from inside the app. You can control friend and classmate access through the available features. To ask about account or data deletion, email dylan@thedylanator.com.

This policy may change as Lumen develops. The latest version will be published on this page.
